Student guide: advocating for more plant-based meals

  • Audit your school’s current plant-based options.
  • Explore your school’s public sustainability and plant-based menu goals.
  • Look into what neighboring schools are doing in the plant-based realm.
  • Conduct a survey amongst your peers to showcase demand.
  • Start with friends and peers who have the same values.
  • Engage with relevant school clubs (sustainability, animal rights, vegan
  • clubs, etc.).
  • Start your own sustainability group or veg club at your school.
  • Connect with sustainability teachers or leaders, your campus dietitian or health and wellness director, and your school’s dining leadership team.
  • Interact with your school’s social media posts by liking and commenting on their food posts.
  • Submit suggestions through your school’s dining or cafeteria feedback system.
  • Meet with your dining staff. Remember to always be polite, respectful, and gracious for staffs’ time.
  • Encourage your dining team to set a goal through the Forward Food Pledge.
  • Offer to help your dining team organize a sampling and feedback table.
  • Suggest plant-based recipes from our online recipe database.
